Oklahoma's State Question 788 effectively legalized medical cannabis when it was approved on June 26, 2018 by 57% of the voters.

Ballot Measure: SQ 788 (June 26, 2018)

Governing Authority: Oklahoma State Department of Health

Enforcement Agency:  Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control (?)

Oklahoma is on the cutting edge of cannabis legalization both chronologically as well as progressively, with the regulatory framework being discussed unusually post-prohibition.  Many states drag their feet because of that pesky necessity and the organization of such, but OK put the cart before the horse and may be something of a tipping point for states that are still on the fence. The OMMA even has a very responsive and informative Twitter account.

As of 8/25/18, applications have been accepted for licenses for growers, processors, dispensaries and, in tangent with one of the above, transporters.

Grower, processor and dispensary applicants must also register with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control (OBNDD) after receiving a license from the OMMA.

Only once licensed can an operator cultivate any cannabis and only from seed, so the best guess at when Oklahoma's first legal cannabis being sold is early 2019 if everything goes as expected with the application approval process.

Nevertheless, Oklahomans will soon be able to:

1) Consume marijuana legally

2) Legally possess up to three ounces of marijuana on their person

3) Legally possess six mature marijuana plants

4) Legally possess six seedling plants

5) Legally possess one ounce of concentrated marijuana

6) Legally possess 72 ounces of edible marijuana

7) Legally possess up to eight ounces of marijuana in their residence..
